The Plague Of Bed Bugs

Bed bugs don’t just inhabit houses, anywhere is fair game for these little insects to call home. Recently, bed bugs have the made the news after they infested a fire station in Troy, NY.

NY and NJ bed bug news has been more prominent in recent years. That’s because there’s been an increase in bed bugs due to resistance of pesticides, and ineffective pest control. That’s why it’s critical to hire a quality company with experience, like Heritage Pest Control.

According to a news story in the Times Union, the Troy, NY firefighters got bed bugs after taking a call at a place that houses chronically homeless people. The bugs quickly infested their gear, clothes, ambulances, the fire house, and fire trucks.

Bed bugs are a costly problem. All their gear and trucks were decontaminate multiple times. A huge reason everything needs to be decontaminated multiple times is because during an emergency call the firefighters could carry them into houses, or buildings.

According to the article, the city has spent at least $5,000 on treatment, and inspections. It’s essential that entire buildings are treated to get rid of bed bugs. The entire building where the firefighters contracted them from was finally fumigated.
